Happy Anniversary Top Ten

June 22, 2013

Today is my new one year anniversary. I have to pass the "I got divorced this year" torch off to someone else. I will miss that excuse for things gone wrong. Here's my Top Ten Anniversary List.

Top Ten Things I Am Grateful For This Year

10. The taxpayers of the State of New York no longer have to spend their funds paying for an affair.

9. When I check my credit card bills I know what all the charges are for.

8. I don't have to waste another minute checking the Verizon phone numbers.

7. When I answer the phone I don't have to worry about hearing that my "husband" has decided not to
     come home that weekend.

6. When I climb into my comfortable bed at night I don't worry that other people have been in it.

5. I can go to Manhattan without feeling depressed that I probably won't be moving there.

4. I like my job, which is a good thing because I won't be retiring early as planned.

3. I love my friends. They have supported me through the worst of times.

2. Ditto for my kids.

1. When I come through the door after working all day I don't have to wonder where the man who is
kissing me has had his mouth just hours before. Mostly because there IS no one kissing me. But I've
finally come to realize that is better than the alternative.

Counting Sheep

August 30, 2012

Last night I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep. Since I've been trying to do without my friend, Ambien, that has sometimes been happening. But this was that "wide awake" wake up. When you know you are not going to fall back to sleep easily. When you start to think of something obsessively. So what was I stuck on last night? I somehow remembered the night Dave told me that sometimes he would meet the Kurwa (polish) in New York. She would go there as part of her job and the State of New York would pay for her room. Or so he told me.

So, how do I get one of those nursing jobs? My job usually requires me to be on my feet all day. On really busy days I am lucky to be able to go to the bathroom. It would be wonderful to have a job where I could be "put up" in the city and then have sex with someone in a room paid for by my employer. But alas. I was busy raising my family and didn't have time to pursue my Masters degree. In truth I wasn't interested in an advanced degree. But it sure would have come in useful now. I suppose there is still time.

I could still attend UMASS Amherst or Boston University. I don't have to worry about my kids anymore or a husband. But will there be THAT job at the end of all that hard work? I suspect I would still be by the bedside because I love that part of nursing. Only it will be my patient's bedside and not that of someone else's husband.

Maybe sharing this will help me sleep better tonight. I certainly hope so!

"What Really Happened"

June 26, 2012

I was going to write about my friends and family today. About their incredible love and support. But I have gotten sidetracked by the Rielle Hunter story. She has been on every time I turn on the TV. I saw her this morning on Good Morning America. I wanted to watch the news at noon and she was on the end of The View. She is promoting her book, "What Really Happened." First of all why does anyone care? Most people already know what happened. She pursued and slept with a famous married man. And apparently she hasn't heard about birth control.

Did you know that adultery is not taken into consideration when it is time to discuss alimony? I'm sure most married women don't know that. I certainly didn't. It can be argued that your marriage was already broken down before any affairs. How convenient for the cheating spouse. Some day I will have to research that concept of the law. I wonder if it was enacted by a man or a woman.

Anyway, back to the John Edwards/Rielle Hunter saga. How sordid and sad for all concerned, but especially for the children. Doesn't anyone have any morals? How do seemingly intelligent people behave in a way they know will ultimately hurt so many people. How does the vice presidential candidate put so many people in jeopardy? In my case how did the Regional Manager for Cancer Services and a Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner walk into motels, pay cash for the room and wait for my husband to arrive at lunch time? I guess she did not consider that to be an assault on me or my family.

I am tired of seeing Rielle Hunter on TV. I am tired of her justification of their affair. Everyone makes mistakes but this goes beyond a small indiscretion. When families and lives are destroyed it is hard to accept excuses. She is a low life and John Edwards is a low life with money. I have worked as a nurse for over 30 years. I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt money does not buy class. I have taken care of some of the poorest people in the community and many of them have dignity and class that is beyond reproach.

I will not be watching TV again today. I will spend the rest of the day cleaning, reading and going out to dinner with my daughter!
