Bridge Scandal

As if I didn't have enough bridge phobia. Now I have to worry about man made traffic jams on major bridges. Very high bridges. Oh wait...is it only the George Washington Bridge I have to be concerned about traveling over? Is it only in New Jersey that politicians are REALLY stupid? But then again...Mark Sanford WAS reelected in South Carolina. I suppose stupidity like that is universal but I hope it is tempered with some staff members that have not only a brain but a conscience.


The pictures I saw on TV of the aftermath of closing lanes on the GWB were horrifying. Mass chaos. Cars all over in what looked like a parking lot. Emergency vehicles unable to get through traffic, school busses just sitting in traffic and cars EVERYWHERE. How do you close lanes on one of the busiest bridges in America without a valid reason? Did it just take one phone call? No one questioned the validity of that decision. They just went out and put up signs? I sometimes have to make two or three calls just to get the linen carts emptied in my unit never mind CLOSING lanes in New York City!


The emails following the debacle are revealing as well. Governor Christies staff delighting in the confusion and frustration of their own constituents. Just to punish the mayor of Fort Lee, NJ who did not support the governor? Really? And I can't even use my favorite excuse, Boys Are Stupid. The deputy chief of staff was a woman, a mother of four. Shame on you. And for the governor to claim he didn't know. Please. No one believes that. No matter how long the press conference lasts.


My suggestion to Governor Christie, ( I was starting to like you. Your tough no nonsense approach) just get a ten gallon hat and a pistol. We can bring the wild, wild west back to the East Coast.

I Love New York

This is a little late in the current events timeline. But I had to mention it. Another reason to love New York. Anthony Weiner and Eliot Spitzer were defeated in their respective elections this month. Oh, how proud I am of New Yorkers.


Weiner only garnered 5 percent of the vote for the mayoral Democratic candidate. Here is a man who even after he is caught sending pictures of hie weiner on social media, whose intelligent wife stands by him, and who is now a FATHER, can't resist continuing his deviant and humiliating behavior. Why run for public office and continue to behave like an ass? Why put your wife and now your child through such scrutiny again? Clearly Mr. Weiner is a sad, selfish individual.


And Eliot. My personal favorite. He were defeated by Scott Stringer, a journeyman politician. Spitzer outspent him two to one. And it was noted that his wife did not stand by her man. At least she is using her brain and her education. Maybe morals ARE beginning to make a come back. Or maybe it's common sense.


Oh, but South Carolina! Congratulations on electing Mark Sanford. A man who lied to you and has recently taken his "fiance" on a trip sponsored by the state. New York is looking better and better.

I was not following the South Carolina congressional race that closely. As I've said I'm not really that political. All I knew is that Steven Colbert's sister was running against MARK SANFORD! What else did I need to know? I figured Elizabeth would win handily. But I was wrong.


The voters of South Carolina elected a known liar into office. Amazing. He not only lied to and cheated on his wife and kids BUT he also lied to his office staff and more importantly to his constituents. But I guess lying and cheating doesn't matter anymore. Because those same constituents voted him back into office. They shiouldn't be surprised when he lies again. Because from my own life experience I have come to realize that lying and cheating gets easier and easier the second and third times around. And to think we spent millions of dollars trying to impeach Bill Clinton for getting a blow job. But this guy is getting PAID to run off like a coward with his "soul mate." And then to parade the babe in public with his son!! I would really like to sit down and have a long chat with Jennie Sanford. I bet we would get along famously. And the trespassing charge! Kudos, Jennie. He should have thought  about watching the Super Bowl with his son before he destroyed his marriage. But I know, "I'm divorcing you not my kids." Famous last words.


So another state I can cross off my list for retirement. Looks like moving out west is my only viable option. And before anyone accuses me of being a man hater let me assure you I am not. I just wish I could meet a man who is trustworthy. Lying about cheating is an even worse offense than the actual cheating. And humiliating your spouse in public is cowardly and unforgivable.


Congratulations to the voters of South Carolina. You obviously don't believe in the sanctity of marriage. Tell me again why you don't believe in marriage equality?
